Many people regard East Lothian as Edinburgh’s Playground. Its coastline has many award winning beaches, stretching 40 miles east of the capital, providing a host of activities from surfing and kayaking to more gentle exercise on the John Muir Way and of course, its Bucket List golf courses. There are wonderful medieval castles, such as Tantallon Castle, overlooking the cliffs east of North Berwick and Dirleton Castle, near to Gullane. There’s also an opportunity to visit one of Scotland’s best Lowland distilleries at Glenkinchie. There are 15 excellent courses located alongside ‘Scotland’s Golf Coast Road’ the A198, which runs from Musselburgh Links to Dunbar. Several are ranked in the World’s top 100 courses, including the world’s oldest golf club formed in 1744, The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, who play at Muirfield, Gullane with its three courses, of which No.1 Course played host to the 2015 Scottish Open and North Berwick and its magnificent closing six holes which include Redan, the most copied hole in the world. Add to this a microclimate making it one of Scotland’s driest areas, you are guaranteed to have fun on Scotland’s Golf Coast.
